Romanov Riches Introduction
Just when we thought these cringy Microgaming collaborations couldn’t get any worse, we’re slapped in the face by yet another one. The once so mighty Microgaming, creators of fantastic classics such as Immortal Romance and Jurassic Park, insists on allowing these small obscure game studios produce ‘exclusive’ content for them. The results so far have been so disastrous that we’re starting to wonder if it’s some sort of social charity project that involves sharing their wealth and experience with clueless programmers who know absolutely nothing about online slots. If so, that’s super cool, but the slots are still awful. There’s no way around it.
Romanov Riches is a Microgaming powered slot produced by a studio called Fortune Factor. They are so unknown that not even Microgaming has any information available about them on their list of associated studios (at the time of writing).
This 5-reel, 3-row slot accepts bets ranging from €0.20 to €100 and comes with 15 fixed pay lines. Unfortunately, as the case usually seems to be with Microgaming, there is no information whatsoever regarding the theoretical return to player. This is often a red flag and something that, as a direct consequence, will result in the loss of points in our final verdict.
Although far from extravagant in appearance, the visuals pay due homage to the classic Microgaming look which always works. There’s definitely a The Finer Reels of Life vibe to it in terms of looks and sound.
Romanov Riches Symbols
Romanov Riches comes with a setup of 9 regular symbols which includes the 10, J, Q, K and A low-value symbols as well as 4 Romanov Gems – the green and blue being of equal top value, giving you a return of 4 times the stake for 5 of a kind. The Snowflake Wild symbol, however, is the most profitable one and appears stacked one the reels just like the rest of the lot. This means you can land a full-screen wild symbols to a total win of 750 times the stake.
Romanov Riches Re-spin Feature & Bonus
Should you land matching full symbols stacks on 2 to 4 adjacent reels, starting with the leftmost reel, the re-spin feature will come into play. During the feature, the stacks are locked while the remaining reels re-spin. Landing an additional matching full stack will result in yet another re-spin. During our trial, we could conclude that it was not terribly hard to land a full screen and even managed to have a couple of max wins in the main game with the help of the premiums. Unfortunately, the payouts are abysmal and will not pay more than 80 times the stake outside of the bonus.
Each reel also includes a stack of mystery symbols. A single symbol will replace the stack of mystery symbols on each reel. These become highlighted in the same colour as the symbol it replaces. The mystery symbols increase the chance of landing win combinations made out of full stacked symbols and may even include bonus symbols.
The bonus game comes in the form of a cash wheel. 3, 4, or 5 stacks of the bonus symbol triggers 1, 2, or 3 bonus wheels respectively. Now, the two first wheels award a cash prize that goes up to 75 times the stake, and if you’re lucky enough to have triggered the third wheel it will then add a multiplier to the total cash prize collected from the two first wheels.
