Ivan and the Immortal King

Ivan and the Immortal King Introduction

Quickspin’s December release Ivan and the Immortal King is a slot based on the story of Russian folklore hero Ivan Tsarevich, in which he is engaged in a legendary struggle to defeat the immortal king and antagonist Koschei.

In Quickspin’s interpretation, players take on the role as Ivan, who is “neither strong nor smart”, but does possess a great deal of luck which he will need in order to triumph over the evil Koschei and to claim the ill-gotten treasures. To complete his mission, Ivan has to get to Koschei’s soul which is said to be hidden separate from his body inside a needle, which is in an egg, which is in a duck, which is in a hare, which is inside a chest. Unlock the chest and break the needle and the treasure is yours.

In many ways, Ivan is a classic Quickspin slot with characteristics typical of the Swedish developer, which means anyone who’s ever played their slots will feel right at home. The math model, however, is a fresh one with a max win potential far exceeding that of the past, making the new slots more attractive to the otherwise restrictive hardcore gambler target group.

The studio undoubtedly has a knack for creating fairy-tale themed slots – GoldilocksBig Bad WolfThe Three Musketeers and Sinbad just to name a few. Ivan fits right in with the group with its colourful, hand-painted, artwork that blends effortlessly into the elegant backdrops. The familiar Russian instrumentals is a nice addition as well, the Korobeiniki tune in particular which many in the west may recognise as the Tetris theme.

This 5-reel3-row slot is played with 20 fixed paylines and accepts bets between 0.20 and 100 EUR. Central to the slot is the randomly triggered Baba Yar feature, and more importantly, the free spin feature that comprises a level-up multiplier packed with potential.

Ivan and the Immortal King Symbols & Paytable

The standard symbols are 10 in total represented by 5 low-value gems of various colour and 5 high-paying symbols made out of dragons, wolves, a fairy lady, Ivan the Immortal King, as well as the hero himself, Ivan Tsarevich, who is of highest value out of all symbols. Land 5 of him and you’ll win 100 times your stake. The symbols appear fully stacked on the reels which means that there’s a 2000 times the stake jackpot in the base game. Not bad at all. Also, we must add, the payouts are displayed in cash value relative to your current stake which is great!

As a side note, Koschei the Immortal King, who bears a strong resemblance to the Night King from Game of Thrones, by the way, turns into Koschei the Not So Immortal King when defeated but remains of the same value. A fun little detail nevertheless. The game also comes with a set of special symbols – a wild, a bonus scatter symbol and a progress scatter symbol that only comes into play during the free spin feature.
