Dolphin Coast: Introduction
We don’t know for sure when Dolphin Coast was first released (it’s old) nor when it was pulled from the market, but it appears to have been available as late as 2016. Exactly why it disappeared is shrouded in mystery – it’s not a branded slot so expired licenses had nothing to do with it, something that is otherwise often the reason for pulled slots (South Park by NetEnt is one such example). It could, of course, have performed worse than expected and players might have eventually abandoned it due to low payouts, but whatever the reason, it is now back again.
Dolphin Coast is a 5-reel, 5-row online slot with 3,125 ways to win, which means players are not limited to particular pay lines. The minimum stake is set to €0.50, and the upper limit is kept quite low, allowing a max bet of only €10. As is often the case with Microgaming we could find no information about the RTP anywhere in the slot. We do, however, know from historical data that the RTP for the first release was 96.4%.
Set against a static deep blue sea backdrop with relaxing music playing along to the spinning effect of the reels, one can’t help but feel that the production of Dolphin Coast is quite outdated. It’s also a bit hard to keep track of all the dolphin related slots out there, a theme that has been used and abused in absurdum. All of that can be forgiven, however, as long as a slot can pay, which takes to the next part of our review…
Dolphin Coast: Symbols & Paytable
There are in total 11 regular symbols included in the game, the Scatter, Wild and Bonus symbols excluded. The low value symbols are represented by the usual 10, J, Q, K and A symbols, while the premiums come in the form of various sea creatures such as starfish, seahorse, stripe fish, jellyfish, tasty orange fish, and sea turtle – the latter being the most valuable, bringing in a total of 5 times the stake for 5 across a full payline.
The wild is represented by a dolphin and appears stacked on reels 2 and 4 in the main game. The regular symbols do not appear stacked in the main game which is why the payouts are meagre unless you manage to get lucky with the help of the Wild Dolphin Bonus, which takes ut to the third part of our review…
The Wild Dolphin Bonus is triggered when, during a winning spin, the Dolphin Coast symbol lands on the middle reel in the main game. When activated, players get to select one of three dolphins to win a 2x, 3x or 4x multiplier added to the initial win. This way it’s possible to win up to 1600 times the stake in a single spin in the main game. The Wild Dolphin Bonus cannot be triggered in the free spins mode.
Dolphin Coast: Free Spins
Triggering the free spins on any high variance slot can be quite a challenge, but in return, the rewards can be great. If you manage to make your way to the free spins game here, you can look forward to the possibility of landing a staggering max win of 15,625 times the stake. First, however, you have to land 3, 4 or 5 Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels which award 15, 20 or 25 free spins respectively (can be re-triggered).
During the free spins, all high-value symbols appear stacked on the reels (the wilds only as singles) and should you land a full screen of sea turtles, with or without wilds, the max win will become a reality. That’s pretty much all there is to the free spins game. Simple and straight-forward, typical old school Microgaming.
